Wait for encoding
After the upload, Sygil prepares the video for smooth streaming at different qualities. The lesson is marked ready automatically.
What happens to the video
- Videos are hosted and streamed through a video platform built for this, so they play smoothly on slow connections.
- Only students who are enrolled (and the creator) receive the video for paid lessons. Visitors who are not enrolled get nothing but the free previews.
- Lessons play inside the course page. Sygil does not offer downloads of course videos.
Lesson states
| State | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Uploading | The video is going to the host. | Keep the window open. |
| Processing | Being encoded for streaming. | Wait. This takes a few minutes. The lesson updates by itself. |
| Ready | Students can watch it. | Nothing. |
| Failed | The upload or encoding failed. | Delete the lesson and upload the video again, possibly in a different format such as MP4. |
Free previews: your best sales pitch
A course sells when people get a taste first. Mark one or two lessons as previews, and make the first the best one.
- The first lesson should deliver a real win in 5 minutes. A quick result convinces better than any description.
- Previews stay watchable even for a scheduled course that has not launched yet, so they keep selling the course.
- Use a preview in your Auto-DM: "Comment COURSE for the free lesson" (recipe).
Structure that works
- Start with a short "what you will build" lesson (2 to 3 minutes).
- Keep each lesson to one idea and under 10 minutes if you can.
- End each lesson with the exact next step.
- Finish with a lesson that points to your next product, such as a call or an advanced course.
